The method of generating energy through pressure-retarded osmosis was invented by Sidney Loeb in 1973. The idea arose, in part, from observing the Jordan River flowing into the Dead Sea. He wanted to harness the energy from the mixing of these two aqueous solutions (the Jordan River and the Dead Sea), energy that was being wasted in this natural process.

In 1977, Loeb invented a method to produce energy using a reverse electrodialysis heat engine.

Salinity gradient energy is based on harnessing the difference in osmotic pressure between fresh water and seawater.
All the energy proposed to be used through salinity gradient technology relies on evaporation to separate the water from the salt.

Osmotic pressure is the chemical potential of concentrated and dilute salt solutions. When analyzing the relationship between high and low osmotic pressure, solutions with higher salt concentrations exhibit higher pressure.

Sunlight reaching the bottom of the saltwater pond is absorbed as heat. The effect of natural convection, in which heat rises, is blocked by the density differences between the three layers that make up the pond, in order to retain the heat.

The upper convection zone is the highest, followed by the stable gradient zone, and finally, the lower thermal zone. The stable gradient zone is the most important. The saltwater in this layer cannot rise to the upper zone because the saltwater above has lower salinity and is therefore less dense and more buoyant; nor can it sink to the lower level because that saltwater is denser. This intermediate zone, the stable gradient zone, acts as an insulator for the lower layer (although its main function is to block natural convection, since water is a poor insulator). This water from the lower layer, the storage zone, is pumped out, and the heat is used to produce energy, generally via a turbine in an organic Rankine cycle.

In theory, a solar pond could be used to generate osmotic energy if the evaporation produced by solar heat is harnessed to create a salinity gradient, and the potential energy of this salinity gradient is directly harnessed using one of the first three methods mentioned above, such as the capacitive method.

In short, we are moving toward a more advanced and more mindful world in this regard.

If we know how to make good use of nature, of what God gives us, and at the same time take care of the planet, we will make our lives healthier.

All these factors are definitive elements that vary on multiple occasions, depending on fluctuations. Balance is crucial in every action and in managing the development of ideas and their implementation.
There are many innovations, but I adopt my simple approach to what can improve our way of life and the ecosystem.
A freer, cleaner, and healthier world in all its areas, and a world more advanced in the positive rhetoric of civilizations.

La ola de energías renovables. Sistema de energía osmótica.

El método de generación de energía mediante ósmosis retardada por presión fue inventado por Sidney Loeb en 1973.
La idea surgió, en parte, al observar el río Jordán desembocando en el Mar Muerto. Quería aprovechar la energía de la mezcla de ambas soluciones acuosas (el río Jordán y el Mar Muerto), energía que se desperdiciaba en este proceso natural. 

En 1977, Loeb inventó un método para producir energía mediante un motor térmico de electrodiálisis inversa.

La energía del gradiente de salinidad se basa en el aprovechamiento de la diferencia de presión osmótica entre el agua dulce y el agua de mar.
Toda la energía que se propone utilizar mediante la tecnología del gradiente de salinidad se basa en la evaporación para separar el agua de la sal. 

La presión osmótica es el potencial químico de las soluciones concentradas y diluidas de sal.
Al analizar la relación entre la alta y la baja presión osmótica, las soluciones con mayor concentración de sal presentan mayor presión.

La luz solar que llega al fondo del estanque de agua salada se absorbe en forma de calor. El efecto de la convección natural, en la que el calor asciende, se bloquea mediante las diferencias de densidad entre las tres capas que componen el estanque, con el fin de retener el calor. 

La zona de convección superior es la más elevada, seguida de la zona de gradiente estable y, finalmente, la zona térmica inferior. La zona de gradiente estable es la más importante. El agua salada en esta capa no puede ascender a la zona superior porque el agua salada de arriba tiene menor salinidad y, por lo tanto, es menos densa y más flotante; ni puede descender al nivel inferior porque esa agua salada es más densa. Esta zona intermedia, la zona de gradiente estable, actúa como aislante para la capa inferior (aunque su principal función es bloquear la convección natural, ya que el agua es un mal aislante). 

Esta agua de la capa inferior, la zona de almacenamiento, se bombea y el calor se utiliza para producir energía, generalmente mediante una turbina en un ciclo Ranking orgánico.

En teoría, un estanque solar podría utilizarse para generar energía osmótica si se aprovecha la evaporación producida por el calor solar para crear un gradiente de salinidad, y la energía potencial de este gradiente de salinidad se aprovecha directamente mediante uno de los tres primeros métodos mencionados anteriormente, como el método capacitivo.

En síntesis, nos dirigimos hacia un mundo más avanzado, y más cuidadoso en este sentido. 

Si sabemos hacer buen provecho de la naturaleza, de lo que Dios nos da, y a la vez cuidamos el planeta, haremos nuestras vidas más saludables.

Todos estos factores son elementos definitivos, que varían en múltiples ocaciones, en dependencia de la fluctuación. 

El balance es determinante en cada acción y el manejo del desarrollo de las ideas, sumado a las maneras de implementación.

Muchas son las innovaciones, pero adopto mi sencillo acercamiento a lo que pueda mejorar nuestro modo de vida y al Ecosistema.

Un mundo más libre, más limpio y más sano en todas sus áreas, y un mundo más avanzado en la buenas retóricas de las civilizaciones.
